About Family of Things

Hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Hamilton, Ontario, known for their unique blend of sensitive songwriting, boundless vocals, rhythmic integrity, and quality production. Formed by musical partners Aaron Brown and Bradley Barnham, FOT has quickly made a name for themselves in the indie music scene.

Their journey began in the fall of 2016 with the self-release of their debut EP, produced by Peter Mol. The EP received instant acclaim, amassing over a million Spotify streams and topping playlists such as New Music Friday and Indie Allstars. This early success laid the foundation for the band's distinctive sound and artistic vision.

With a few years of experience, a clearer sense of direction, and Factor funding, Brad and Aaron, alongside Peter, retreated to a family cottage up north to collaborate on their first full-length record. During this creative period, they signed a publishing deal with Seattle-based Luna Music Group, further solidifying their presence in the music industry.

Their debut album, "Oscilloscope," has seen remarkable success across North America, featuring on Spotify Editorial playlists like New Music Friday, Indie All Stars, Rock Your Block, and many others. The album also earned spots on CBC's "Three New Songs You Need to Hear This Week" and received extensive airplay on CBC/Sirius XM/Canadian Indie radio, accompanied by a wealth of editorial coverage.

After a few years of producing other artists and creating music for film and TV, in 2022, Aaron and Brad embarked on a new journey with FOT, self-producing a full-length record with the Texas-based Label Music Group. Alternating between Halifax and Hamilton, the band worked in various studios with some of their favorite musicians and collaborators. Their second full-length record, "Flowers On The Wall," was released in July 2023. Supported by Label and Musicbed Publishing, the album has enjoyed commercial success, featured in brands such as Vogue, The Emmys, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Shein, MTV, and hundreds of others. Their music has also gone viral on Instagram. Through the relationships developed in the creation of this record, FOT has begun to co-write with and produce many other artists in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, Vancouver, and Toronto, bringing many world-renowned artists and creatives to production retreats at Aaron’s East coast recording studio in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Looking forward, Family of Things is currently writing and recording demos for their third full-length record, as they continue to captivate audiences with their heartfelt melodies and innovative sound, promising an exciting future in the indie pop music landscape.
